HUMANE Study Visit Copenhagen

Organisational Transformation in Higher Education: Governance, Structures and Professional Services

Hosted by the Copenhagen Business School and the University of Copenhagen, November 4-6, 2026

The HUMANE Study Visit hosted by Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) will explore how two Danish universities are reshaping their governance models, organisational structures and professional services in response to increasing political steering, financial constraints, and rising expectations regarding efficiency and quality.

The Study Visit will place a strong focus on professional services as a strategic capability, examining how administrative leadership, operating models and performance management are evolving under tight governmental regulation and framework contracts with the State. Participants will gain insight into how universities balance institutional self‑governance with external accountability, while redesigning administrative structures, processes and competencies.

Drawing on concrete cases from CBS and UCPH, the programme will address how professional services are organised, steered and developed to deliver operational excellence, including cost efficiency, process standardisation and shared services. Particular attention will be paid to the role of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence as enablers of new service models, as well as to the implications for workforce planning, upskilling and reskilling within university administrations.

The Study Visit will combine strategic perspectives, operational cases and peer exchange, offering participants practical insights into governance instruments, performance monitoring, administrative reform and leadership in complex university organisations.
