Nadine Burquel

Director General, HUMANE, BE

Nadine is the Director General of HUMANE. She works closely with the Chair and the governing bodies on HUMANE’s strategic developments. She manages the HUMANE Office to offer the membership an attractive portfolio of professional development and networking activities. She has been involved with HUMANE since its foundation in the mid-nineties, until December 2022 as Executive Director of the three residential schools (the Barcelona Winter School, the Berlin Summer School and the Asia School).

Nadine has extensive director level experience, having worked with multiple international non-profit organisations, university networks and international boards. She has wide knowledge of leadership, governance and management in higher education institutions, and the global trends in the higher education sector. As EFMD Director of Business School Services she was responsible for a wide portfolio of large global events and communities of practices, interacting with business schools and universities in the wider Europe, North and Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, the Gulf, as well as North and South America. More recently in Maastricht University she was strategic adviser to the leadership of the School of Business and Economics, advising on international accreditation, the internationalisation strategy, and delivering societal impact.

She has significant experience with EU (higher) education policy and programmes since the early days of the Erasmus programme. She has a strong track record of EU projects, leading large EU-funded European university networks and providing technical assistance to the European Commission. She is high level EU policy expert, working at system level in Brussels and beyond, carrying out capacity building and evaluations of EU interventions, having worked with EU Delegations in many countries.

Piotr Czajkowski

Director of the Centre for Corporate Relations, SGH Warsaw School of Economics, PL

Piotr Czajkowski is the Director of the Center for Business Cooperation at SGH Warsaw School of Economics, where he develops strategic partnerships between the university and leading companies.

He is responsible for the SGH Partners Club, a key platform connecting academia with business, which brings together major technology companies such as Google and Microsoft, leading Polish and international banks including BNP Paribas, PKO BP, and Citi, as well as global pharmaceutical companies such as Novartis and Sandoz.

An entrepreneur for most of his professional life, he brings strong practical business experience into academia. He is also the founder of the Polish Chess Foundation and organiser of a chess league at SGH, engaging dozens of companies and public organisations.

Marcin Dabrowski

Chancellor, SGH Warsaw School of Economics, PL

Marcin Dabrowski is the Chancellor of SGH Warsaw School of Economics since 2016. He is also a Board member of HUMANE absl, founder and editor-in-chief of „E-mentor” (a scientific bimonthly journal).

Marcin also has experience in non-governmental organisations, e.g. as a managing director of the Foundation for the Promotion and Accreditation of Economic Education, president of the Association of Children’s Universities in Poland, chairman of the programming boards of the „Kwartalnik Trzeci Sektor” (quarterly) and the European Foundation for Entrepreneurship Development.

He is a graduate of SGH Warsaw School of Economics and two postgraduate programmes in organisation management and project management. His doctoral dissertation was devoted to the application of a strategic scorecard in ensuring organisational efficiency of university operations based on the example of the organisation of distance learning.

Ed Foster

Head of Student Engagement and Analytics, Nottingham Trent University, UK

Ed Foster is the Head of Student Engagement and Analytics at Nottingham Trent University. He manages the delivery of the NTU Student Dashboard, a learning analytics resource used by students and staff. He oversees the development work with technology partner Solutionpath and the research into the efficacy of using data to support student success, particularly for students from socially-disadvantaged backgrounds. He works with personal tutors and other support staff to improve the quality of student support and advice. Ed is part of the management team in the Centre for Student and Community Engagement (CenSCE) seeking to address the issues of disparities of attainment between different groups of students in higher education.

Prior to working in CenSCE, Ed worked in a number of different departments across the University including the Centre for Academic Development & Quality, the Library and Student Support Services. He previously worked in the NTU Students’ Union and at De Montfort University.

Ed is currently engaged in research about the interplay between learning analytics and student success in higher education. This includes the role of technology in retention, transition, widening participation and reducing disparities of attainment.

Małgorzata Głogowska

Head of Student Support Office, SGH Warsaw School of Economics, PL

Małgorzata Głogowska has been the Head of the Student Support Office at SGH Warsaw School of Economics since 2025.

An SGH alumna, she holds degrees in Quantitative Methods in Economics and Information Systems, as well as in Management. She has also completed postgraduate studies in Business Process Analytics and Robotics and in Project Management.

Her professional experience at SGH dates back to 2017, when she began working as an analyst supporting university authorities, gaining a broad perspective on the institution’s initiatives and processes. She was involved in a project implementing a customer relationship management system and later became one of its key users and business owners. That gave her a student-oriented perspective on university activities.

She also served as a content coordinator in a project focused on implementing a system supporting student organization activities. This marked the beginning of her cooperation with student bodies, which continues at the Student Support Office.

In her current role, together with her team, she supports the student union and approximately 70 other student organizations in their activities. She is also responsible for processes related to scholarships and she coordinates university initiatives aimed at reducing student drop-out, such as on-campus information support, additional remedial classes, and tutoring programs.

Geoff Green

Registrar, Leicester University, HUMANE Board member, UK

As Registrar and Secretary, Geoff is head of the University’s academic administration, including research and enterprise, education, library, student services and strategic planning. He has overall responsibility for the University’s partnership with the Students’ Union. He is secretary to University Council and University Senate, responsible for the overall governance of the University.

Geoff joined the University in 2009 as Director of Administration in the College of Science and Engineering, moving onto the roles of Director of Student Systems, Director of Policy, Planning and Change, and then Academic Registrar in 2015. Prior to this Geoff worked for nearly ten years at The Open University in a range of roles at school and university level, including a secondment to Oxford University. He started his career in further education, supporting adult education courses.

Geoff is a member of the Executive Board, Senior Leadership Team, and Professional Services Executive Group. Outside the University, Geoff is a member of the HE Advisory Panel for the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA). He is also an active member of the Association of University Administrators (AUA) and Association of Heads of University Administration (AHUA). Since January this year Geoff is a Board member of HUMANE.

Beata Mierzejewska

Deputy Chancellor, SGH Warsaw School of Economics, PL

Beata Mierzejewska has been the Deputy Chancellor of SGH Warsaw School of Economics since 2016, previously working as a project manager and a research and teaching associate.

She is able to combine her perfect understanding of the academia with a pragmatic business approach. She gained her experience in business and management by implementing and managing numerous consulting projects for large companies, public institutions and SMEs.

Beata is an SGH graduate, scholarship holder under the US Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program, participant in training and development programmes for managerial staff, including Crisis Leadership in Higher Education organised by the Harvard Kennedy School, and University Management Leaders organised by the University of Helsinki.

Mike Nachtegael

Chief Academic Administrator, Ghent University, BE

Mike Nachtegael was born in 1976 in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium. Given his love for mathematics it was an easy choice to study this topic at Ghent University. He graduated in 1998.

During the period 1998-2015 Mike continued to be active at Ghent University as predoc, postdoc and guest professor. His research included soft computing techniques in image processing, on which he published several conference papers, journal papers and books, and taught several bachelor and master courses.

During the period 2011-2018 Mike was Alderman for Finance and chairman of the Public Center for Social Wellness in Sint-Niklaas, a Flemish city of around 80.000 people. This policy function was totally different from academia, which just made it quite enriching.

Since 2018 Mike is back at Ghent University as chief academic administrator. The chief academic administrator and the chief logistics administrator together with the vice-chancellor and the deputy vice-chancellor form the Management Committee of the university. The chief administrators are responsible for the day-to-day management of the university and the co-ordination of the central university administration. The chief academic administrator is in particular responsible for the steering of the Direction of Educational Affairs, Direction of Research, Direction of Administrative Affairs, Direction of Personnel and Organisation, Internationalisation.

Roberto Nocentini

Chief Operating Officer, European University Institute, IT

Roberto Nocentini is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the European University Institute (EUI), bringing over 30 years of experience in the international research management and university management. Appointed COO in August 2024, he plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient management of the Institute’s daily administrative and financial functions, encompassing business strategies and optimisation of the organisation’s operations.

Appointed by the President, with guidance from the Secretary General, the COO focuses on aligning the Institute’s operations with its strategic objectives. Through thoughtful planning, improving operational processes, and optimising resource use, the COO works to support the EUI community and its academic mission effectively. The COO oversees key services of the EUI such as the Human Resources, Information and Communications Technology, the Library, Real Estate and Facilities, Budget and Financial Affairs, Accounting, Academic, and Communications. In addition to these responsibilities, he assists the President with broader management issues and may serve as Acting Secretary General when needed.

Throughout his career at the EUI, Roberto has held senior leadership positions. He was appointed as Director of Finance and Human Resources in 2005, and subsequently Director of Budget and Financial Affairs Service in 2015. He has also taken on several key roles across the Institute, including Head of the Research Administration Unit (unit specialised in fundraising), Executive Assistant to the Secretary General and, in 2016, Secretary General ad interim. In 2017, he acted as the Director of Human Resources ad interim and was appointed as Administrative Support Coordinator, supporting the President and the Secretary General in horizontal internal management.

Karen Triquet

Specialist in Education Development, Policy & Evaluation | Senior M&E Officer, EUTOPIA Higher Education Alliance, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), BE

Karen Triquet is an Education Development Specialist, currently the senior Central Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for the EUTOPIA Higher Education Alliance and a PhD Researcher on technology-enhanced learning and behaviour based at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Her work and research focus on systemic educational change and learning behaviour in formal and further education. More specifically, she focuses on understanding multi-modal determinants that can serve to enhance education (teaching, learning and tools), at the individual, system and policy level. The ‘red line’ between it all being contributing, connecting and advancing quality and evidence informed educational opportunities – bridging science, practice and edtech.

Having started off working on flexible learning strategies for out-of-school children and youth in UNESCO Bangkok, she has since worked as an instructional designer co-creating a blended bachelor where she designed and taught modules on technology-enhanced learning, and the promotion of self-regulated learning strategies. More recently she worked on projects developing and investigating systemic educational change, digital divides, literacy, data literacy, and learning skills development. She has also been involved in policy informing collaborations such as with the JRC investigating schooling practices during the lockdowns, and developments and needs following the switch to online teaching and remote learning in the context of higher education for the VUB Vice Rectorate Education.

Alongside her current role as M&E officer working with senior management to co-manage the full process of incubation for 60+ multi-stakeholder partnerships piloting cross-campus education, research and innovation activities tackling key issues in society; she currently serves as an expert and expert evaluator on several projects and panels linked to technology-enhanced learning, interoperability, AI in education, credentials and self-regulated learning.
