Navigating cybersecurity challenges in higher education – Safeguarding universities

Universities are a prime target for cyber criminals, from individual opportunists looking for financial gains, to highly organised groups seeking to disrupt IT systems. With their international reach in education and research universities are targeted for the amounts of data they hold in their digital infrastructures and for their large storage capabilities.

The seminar will also look at cyber security and institutional digital resilience with examples of strategies adopted in universities, focusing among others on risk prevention and mitigation, business continuity, transparency and responsibility).

Leadership Programme

Hosted by the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome (KNIR) (IT), May 17-21, 2026

Preparing for Strategic Professional Leadership

The new HUMANE leadership programme “Preparing for Strategic Professional leadership” is designed to cultivate the leadership skills of experienced professional service senior leaders (e.g. directors and heads of HR, finances, estates, IT, etc.) and large faculties/schools’ directors who aspire to move into more senior positions, become senior leaders of other professional service leaders in their institution and broaden their impact.

The programme will start with an introductory webinar on 17 April 2026, followed by an intensive face-to-face programme in Rome (17-21 May 2026). It will end with a final webinar on 30 September when  participants will present an action plan.

The programme will foster out-of-the-box thinking to enhance participants’ ability to connect and respond to the complex issues that are found in more senior roles, to developing broader perspectives and stregnthen leadership capabilities.  Participants will work on their leadership challenges in relation to a current unresolved major organisational challenge in their institution. They will work on their individual action plan to address these challenges which they will take back to their institutions.
