HUMANE Spring Seminar, Milan (IT), April 23-24

Hosted by the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca

The theme of the Spring seminar is, Sustaining public confidence in our universities: public affairs, impact and influence.  People working in universities have no doubt of their value to society, but it would be a mistake to think that this is accepted by a majority.  In the face of criticism that universities are out of touch with the taxpayers who fund them, our institutions have had to reassess their entire approach to public affairs.  Our seminar will share practice on what’s going on in this space including the public affairs organisation and management choices that institutions have made, the major public affairs challenges they are confronting, the successes they’ve achieved as well as the lessons they’ve learned the hard way

HUMANE Annual Conference, Lisbon (PT), May 29-30

Hosted by the University of Lisbon

The theme of the annual conference is, Advancing diversity and inclusion: culture, strategy and practice.  Future-focussed institutions have shifted the discussion about equality, diversity and inclusion away from a regulatory compliance mindset to one that emphasises the utility of diversity.  Yet HE workforces often do not match the diversity of their student bodies and as the Me Too Campaign has shown, tackling harassment is definitely unfinished business. More information will follow shorty.

HUMANE-EFMD Summer School, Berlin (DE), September 27 - October 2

Hosted by the Freie Universität Berlin

The Berlin Summer School is an immersive, intensive management development programme.  It aims to equip professional staff involved in managing service transformation programmes with the skills needed to effect operational management change that sticks.  The programme content comprises a combination of case study analysis of actual transformation programmes in two institutions, with participants working in multinational groups designed to simulate real life multi-disciplinary transformation teams, and knowledge exchange sessions led by senior experts from within higher education and other sectors.  Click here for more information and the application process.

HUMANE Autumn Seminar, Paris (FR), November 5-6

Hosted by the Collège de France

The theme of the Autumn seminar is Lifelong Learning.  Increasing average life expectancy combined with the decreasing shelf life of knowledge caused a re-examination of the meaning of work, leisure, education and training, and retirement.  Yet the operating model of the modern university is still built on the assumption of an undergraduate education being an event that takes place between the ages of 16-22.  This seminar provides an opportunity to share experience and develop networks in relation to developments in relation to LLL policy and practice.  More information will follow shortly.
